Underground Telecommunications Installation Instructor

Position Type: Part-Time/Contract

Location: Remote, travel required

 

Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced professional with extensive knowledge of telecommunications construction with 10+ years operating a directional drill machine. The desired applicant will successfully instruct students on the safe operation and maintenance of the hydraulic directional drill through a classroom and field training environment.

 

The Contract Instructor will deliver specialized training programs based on the directional drill, mini excavator, trench safety, excavation safety, mud mixing, HDD locating, conduit installation, and utility vault sets. This role is ideal for an individual with 20 years of experience in the field who is passionate about mentoring and educating others.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Course Development

  • Instruction of engaging training modules and materials tailored to industry needs.
  • Instruction of hands-on exercises, as studies, and real-world scenarios to enhance learning.
  • Support the quality improvement of course content regularly to reflect the latest industry standards and technologies.

Instruction and Delivery

  • Deliver high-quality in-person training sessions.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels.
  • Provide practical hands-on demonstrations of construction techniques, fiber installation, and troubleshooting methods.

Industry Expertise

  • Share insights and experiences from at least 10+ years of professional work in construction, the communications industry, and/or fiber technologies.
  • Provide guidance on industry best practices, emerging trends, and career pathways.

Collaboration and Engagement

  • Work with Grey Snow Communications staff to ensure course objectives align with organizational goals.
  • Engage with learners, fostering an environment of professionalism and mutual respect.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in construction related to the telecommunications industry, including mini excavators, mud-mixing, and hydraulic directional drilling 
  • Proven ability to teach, mentor, or train professionals effectively.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications in construction, fiber optics, or related disciplines are preferred.

Contract Details:

  • Duration: This contract instructor position requires a commitment to deliver training programs of short-term duration, lasting approximately two (2) weeks per session. These sessions may occur concurrently throughout the calendar year but usually no more than once per quarter, ensuring consistent engagement throughout the calendar year. This arrangement allows for focused, intensive learning experiences while maintaining flexibility for both the instructor and participants. Annual scheduling will be coordinated in advance to align with organizational and participant needs.
  • Compensation: Compensation for this contract instructor position will be provided on a per-course basis. The Underground Telecommunications Installation Instructor is compensated at a flat fee of $4000 per course.
  • Travel: Travel is required and related airfare, mileage, accommodations, rental cars, and per diem is reimbursable. There is no compensation for travel time. 

Fiber Optic Splicing Telecommunications Instructor

Position Type: Part-Time/Contract

Location: Remote, travel required

Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced professional with extensive knowledge of telecommunications construction with 10+ years splicing fiber optic cables. The desired applicant will successfully instruct students on the safe operation and maintenance of the hydraulic directional drill through a classroom and field training environment.

 

The Contract Instructor will deliver specialized training programs based on splicing fiber optic cables, running fiber drops for residential and commercial customers, maintaining and repairing existing networks. This role is ideal for an individual with 10+ years of experience in the field who is passionate about mentoring and educating others.

  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications in construction, fiber optics, or related disciplines are preferred.
